The Bionic Leaf is a device that harness the power of the sun to split water and produce hydrogen using a catalyst. That renewable hydrogen is then used to feed genetically enhanced bacteria that will produce liquid fuels as a result of the bio reaction with a stream of carbon dioxyde.
This concept is the basis of the BAC-TO-FUEL project: a multidisciplinary effort that joins top researchers and scientists in the fields of nanotechnology, chemistry, and biology; all working together in a joint effort to produce next-gen renewable fuels out of sunlight, waste water and CO2.
